Lo-Fi / Starick #1
Lo-Fi has partnered with Starick and Perfect Strangers on a T-shirt to coincide with their fundraiser event this Sunday at PICA Bar.
All profits from the sales of these T-shirts will go directly to Starick, a not-for-profit domestic and family violence service that assists women and children. Starick has been working in the south-east metropolitan corridor of Perth since 1985, providing a diverse range of services for women and children escaping domestic and family violence.
The T-shirts will be available through Starick on Sunday at PICA Bar, and releasing in store & online at Lo-Fi on Monday.
Here are some very sobering stats in Australia:
⁃ On average, one woman a week is murdered by her current or former partner.
⁃ 1 in 3 Australian women (30.5%) has experienced physical violence since the age of 15.
⁃ Almost 10 women a day are hospitalised for assault injuries perpetrated by a spouse or domestic partner.
On top of this, a study in 2017 showed 1 in 5 Australians believe domestic violence is a normal reaction to stress, and that sometimes a woman can make a man so angry he hits her without meaning to.
As a business with a majority young male customer base, we think it's so important to have these discussions and demand better of men. Whilst donations and fundraising play a huge part, education, discussion and holding other men accountable are vital if we are to see much needed improvements in the treatment of women in our country.
